Nitish Rana: Uttar Pradesh ended its 18-year drought by defeating Mumbai by two wickets in the Ranji Trophy 2024 match. UP defeated Mumbai at Wankhede Stadium. Earlier, UP had defeated Mumbai by 5 wickets under the leadership of Mohammad Kaif in the 2006 Ranji Trophy.
Nitish Rana, who came to UP from Delhi, was the hero of victory in this match. Rana scored 106 runs in 120 balls with the help of 12 fours and five sixes. Shams Mulani made the left-handed batsman his victim. On the basis of Rana’s innings, UP had gained a lead of 126 runs on the basis of first innings. He had a partnership of 148 runs with Akashdeep Nath for the sixth wicket.

Mumbai scored 320 runs in its second innings and set a target of 195 runs for UP to win. While chasing the target, UP lost two wickets for 16 runs. Priyam Garg and Samarth Singh had returned to the pavilion. Then Aryan Juyal and Karan Sharma made a comeback for UP by making a partnership of 104 runs for the third wicket.
Juyal performed effectively and scored 76 runs in 100 balls with the help of 10 fours and one six. However, Tanush Kotian troubled the UP batsmen and took five wickets for 58 runs including two maidens in his spell of 24.5 overs. The spinner took the wickets of Aryan Juyal, Nath, Sameer Rizvi, Shivam Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
